Marketing Environment: UNLV Rebels Mendenhall Center

There’s an arms race in collegiate athletics happening today. Universities are investing millions of dollars to attract recruits with the newest, state-of-the-art training centers. The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin’ Rebels basketball program was caught up in the race, but had a limited budget to get the job done.

UNLV had a budget to brand a portion of their basketball practice facility, Mendenhall Center, but weren’t sure how to stretch it out further. They had an existing lobby design that was functional, but didn’t tell the complete story of the passion behind Runnin’ Rebels Basketball. They were trying to find a builder to execute the design – but in Derse, they found a partner who could help them achieve all of their goals.

Derse took on the role as builder, designer and marketing environments consultant. We not only explored how to re-energize UNLV’s existing design, but we looked deeper at their budget and found a solution to finance both their lobby and their basketball court too.

Reppin’ the Scarlet and Gray

Derse’s took Mendenhall Center’s standard design and revived it with the Runnin’ Rebels Scarlet and Gray. The new installations across the lobby and on the court gave Mendenhall Center an edgier look and celebrated the school’s rich culture and history.
