Moen’s trade show evolution at CES

CES has always been the place for cutting-edge technology. Starting in the late 1960’s, it showcased gadgets such as the computer mouse and the VCR. The first personal computer from Apple debuted in 1977 and twenty years later, the DVD player. The 21st century saw iPhones, Bluetooth-enabled products, and 3D printers.

But nowadays CES is not just for technology geeks and computer nerds. Ubiquitous technology means almost all aspects of our lives can be made “smart”--including our homes.

This year, more than 900 companies exhibited in the Smart Home category (a category that appeared in 2015 as the “connected home”). Here’s how one Derse client, Moen, stepped into consumer electronics and is thriving in this ever-growing tech-savvy market:

2017

Moen’s debut at CES originated from a suggestion by Derse that the show would be a strong fit to showcase Moen’s game-changing U by Moen smart shower. Securing a spot at CES four months before the show, Moen aimed to appeal to tech-engaged experience home enthusiasts. Due to the compressed timeline for construction and trial nature of the exhibit, a rental unit was configured for Moen’s 10’ x 20’ space.

Moen’s 10’ x 20’ inline booth at CES 2017 consisted of a Derse rental exhibit with Moen’s branding and messaging. The booth showcased U by Moen, a Wi-Fi/cloud-based digital showering system that synced with personal devices and controlled faucets and shower heads.

2018

Moen’s sophomore exhibit was influenced by the lessons and experience of the previous year. While the booth had the same 10’ x 20’ inline footprint, the focus was on product demonstration. In addition, Moen’s messaging was further targeted to millennial females and baby boomers.

The next generation of U by Moen was showcased in 2019.  No longer controlled remotely by your mobile devise, the product was now activate through an Alexa device.

2019

Gaining seniority at the show, Moen secured a larger 20’ x 20’ space. They continued to promote U by Moen, but shifted focus to their new smart home leak detection system Flo by Moen. The trend of smart technology voice activation technology was prominently showcased with Moen’s digital portfolio of products.

Moen’s booth at CES 2019 focused on demos of their new product Flo by Moen and the U by Moen shower room along with other products.

2020

Moen’s booth at CES 2020 was the most dynamic one yet. Double the footprint of the previous year, the 40’ x 40’ space “housed” Moen’s innovative products. The stunning exhibit featured a complete kitchen and bath to showcase Moen’s full range of smart products and how they work together within the spacious frame of “a house”. The design was reflective of Moen’s approach to smart water technology throughout the home—an exhibit that was not to be missed for attendees at CES 2020.

Moen’s largest CES presence to date featured full kitchen and bath vignettes to showcase how their smart technology can connect you and your home. The booth featured a live presentation of the CES award-winning voice activated faucet in the kitchen space.
